Completed in 2006, the Transportation Expansion (T-REX) program is recognized as the largest multimodal transportation design-build project in U.S. history. Spanning 19.5 miles across southeast Denver, the project modernized one of the region’s most congested corridors by adding new highway capacity, expanding transit options, and constructing an entirely new light-rail system. The initiative transformed mobility, improved safety, and delivered long-term regional connectivity for millions of travelers.
The Challenge
Managing a $1.67 billion design-build megaproject required CDOT to oversee thousands of materials tests, multiple contractors, tight deadlines, and strict QA/QC mandates across a rapidly evolving corridor. The department needed a reliable system capable of coordinating field teams, ensuring continuous data collection both online and offline, maintaining rigorous verification over the Design-Builder’s acceptance results, and providing real-time visibility to prevent delays and keep the entire program on track. With so many stakeholders and so much at stake, CDOT required a centralized, accurate, and scalable quality management solution.
