Controller – In Office (Houston, TX)

Summary |

ATSER is seeking an experienced and strategic Controller to lead and strengthen the organization’s financial operations and reporting functions. In this role, you will oversee budgeting, audits, financial reporting, and internal controls while ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements. You will play a key role in guiding financial decision-making, managing risk, and optimizing cash flow, while leading and developing the finance team. The ideal candidate brings deep accounting expertise, strong leadership skills, and experience in the engineering or construction industry to support operational excellence and long-term growth.

Key Responsibilities |

  • Financial Policies & Controls
    Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures, while maintaining strong internal controls to protect company assets.
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis
    Provide accurate and timely reporting on financial condition by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data; prepare financial statements and special reports to support leadership decision-making.
  • Budgeting & Performance Management
    Lead budgeting processes by developing schedules, consolidating financial data, and recommending plans; monitor performance, analyze variances, and implement corrective actions to meet budget objectives.
  • Cash & Investment Management
    Maximize returns and limit risk by managing cash flow, optimizing bank balances, and overseeing investment activities.
  • Audit & Compliance
    Coordinate audits and work with external auditors while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations; stay informed on evolving legislation and advise leadership on required actions.
  • Special Reporting
    Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Operations & Asset Management
    Support operational efficiency by overseeing equipment needs, maintenance requirements, service contracts, and inventory management.
  • Team Leadership & Development
    Lead, recruit, train, and manage finance staff; provide coaching, performance management, and oversight of daily accounting operations.
  • Administrative & Cross-Functional Support
    Ensure confidentiality of financial information, contribute to team objectives, and support additional operational and financial initiatives as needed.
  • Professional Development
    Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Required Skills and Qualifications |

  • Proven working experience as a Financial Controller.
  • 20 years of overall combined accounting and finance experience.
  • Advanced degree in Accounting Preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
  • Experience with creating financial statements.
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process.
  • Excellent accounting software user and administration skills.
  • Construction experience strongly preferred.
  • Managing Processes, Developing Standards, Audit, Accounting, Corporate Finance, Tracking Budget Expenses, Financial Skills, Analyzing Information, Developing Budgets, Performance Management.
  • GAAP: 10 years (Required).
  • Texas CPA License (Preferred)
