Staff Accountant – In Office (Houston, TX)

Summary |

ATSER is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations and month-end close activities across the organization. Reporting to the Controller, this role is responsible for maintaining accurate general ledger records, performing bank reconciliations, preparing financial reports, and supporting payroll, budgeting, and audit activities. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, organized, and eager to grow within a collaborative finance team while ensuring compliance with GAAP and delivering reliable financial insights that support informed business decisions.

Key Responsibilities |

  • Bank reconciliations: Able to perform bank reconciliations accurately for multiple banks and companies.
  • General Ledger Maintenance: Recording journal entries, maintaining accurate, up-to-date ledgers, and managing accounts payable/receivable.
  • Month-End Close: Assisting with the closing process, including GL account reconciliations, accruals, and fixed asset depreciation.
  • Financial Reporting: Preparing balance sheet and income statement reports for management review.
  • Compliance & Audit: Ensuring all accounting tasks comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and assisting with internal/external audits.
  • Analysis & Budgeting: Analyzing budget variances and financial trends to support decision-making.
  • Payroll: Helps with payroll processing and employee communication.
  • Other: Assist with duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications |

  • Education: Degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Experience: 0 – 3 years of experience in accounting (entry-to-mid level)
  • Skills: Proficiency in MS Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs) and accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks) preferred.
  • Competencies: Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and knowledge of accounting principles.
