Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Field and Laboratory Technician – In Office (Houston, TX)

Summary |

ATSER is seeking a motivated and experienced Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Field/Laboratory Technician to support large-scale road and bridge construction projects. In this role, you will perform field and laboratory testing for concrete, asphalt, soil, and aggregates while ensuring strict compliance with safety, quality, and reporting standards. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in heavy civil testing, operates confidently on active construction sites, and takes pride in delivering accurate, timely results that support successful project outcomes. Competitive hourly compensation is offered based on experience and certifications.

Key Responsibilities |

  • Field & Laboratory Testing
      • Perform construction materials testing in the field and laboratory, including concrete, asphalt, soil, aggregate, and nuclear density testing in support of heavy civil projects.
  • Site Deployment & Equipment Handling
      • Report to active construction sites as dispatched, load and transport testing equipment, and safely handle heavy materials and samples in demanding environments.
  • Sample Collection & Documentation
      • Collect construction material samples and ensure accurate, legible, and timely documentation of test results.
  • Reporting & Data Submission
      • Prepare and submit daily testing reports in accordance with ATSER standards and project requirements.
  • Safety & Compliance
      • Follow ATSER safety, quality, and vehicle policies at all times to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Quality Assurance Support
      • Ensure testing procedures meet applicable specifications, certifications, and quality system requirements to support project success.

Required Qualifications |

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Certifications:

  • Current or attainable certifications such as ACI Field, ACI Concrete Strength, ACI Aggregates, NICET II, TxDOT SB101/102, HMA 1A/1B, or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience performing construction materials testing for heavy civil or transportation projects.

Licensing & Transportation:

  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to operate company vehicles on active construction sites.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to kneel, crouch, stoop, and lift or move materials and equipment weighing 70 lbs. or more.

Technical & Reporting Skills:

  • Ability to accurately perform tests, follow procedures, and produce clear, timely, and legible daily reports.
