The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) launched the Hunts Point Interstate Access Improvement Project to enhance access between the Hunts Point Peninsula and the Sheridan and Bruckner Expressways. This vital infrastructure project supports the movement of commercial vehicles to and from the peninsula, home to one of the largest food distribution centers in the country. The initiative also seeks to resolve structural and operational deficiencies along the existing transportation corridor.
The Challenge
The Hunts Point Peninsula plays a critical role in New York City’s food supply chain, with thousands of trucks accessing the area daily. The existing infrastructure, however, was outdated and congested, leading to safety concerns, traffic bottlenecks, and inefficiencies in commercial transport. NYSDOT needed a robust quality and document management system to streamline inspection, testing, and reporting while improving transparency and coordination among all project stakeholders.
