In 2016 ATSER was selected by GDOT to provide a Material Acceptance Testing System (MATS) for the NWCP Express Lanes project.  GDOT expects to expand the total number of their innovative delivery projects in which they delegate quality acceptance to the design builder team.  This increase in innovative delivery projects required GDOT to identify a more robust software solution, rather than their in-house solution, that would assist with the validation of design builders’ acceptance programs, a requirement from FHWA CFR 23.

The Georgia Department of Transportation’s (GDOT) Northwest Corridor Project (NWCP) added 29.7 miles of toll lanes (6 lanes wide) along I-75 from Akers Mill Road to Hickory Grove Road and along I-575 from I-75 to Sixes Road.  This Design-Build-Finance project will improve traffic flow and provide reliable trip times. GDOT was able to save approximately $110 million through innovative design and alternative technical concept.

As one of ATSER’s main flagship software programs, Assure-IT™ ”Quality Management System”  provides a unique quality management solution for collecting, analyzing, reporting and archiving information for construction material testing and geotechnical engineering testing laboratories.  Designed to improve reporting, Assure-IT™ allows users in the field to capture field testing and inspection activities including asphalt and soil density tests, concrete tests, daily journals and inspection checklists on mobile devices. The real time reporting feature is seen by all members of your team giving them the ability to approve or respond quickly to any issues that may occur in the field reporting non-compliance.

Recently, at the AASHTO Construction Annual Meeting, GDOT’s Construction Team gave a presentation on the Northwest Corridor Express Lanes Project. The project, budgeted for $834 million, was the first alternative delivery project to be managed by GDOT.

Behind the scenes, ATSER’s Assure-IT™ Quality Management System software was utilized to provide governance and standardization to the quality assurance program.
