Harris County Toll Road Authority (HTCRA’s) Sam Houston Ship Channel Bridge has been an integral part of Houston transportation for over 25 years. The current bridge is currently two lanes each way over the Houston Ship Channel and spans 750 feet.
Harris County is replacing the bridge and its approaches to widen access to the ship channel between SH 225 and IH 10. Reconstruction includes a new cable-stayed bridge that will be four lanes each way and span 1,320 feet.The construction when completed, will allow for larger ships to utilize the Houston Ship Channel.Total cost of the project is expected to be just under $1 Billion and begin in 2017.
