Social Content Management
The move towards social content management is founded on the premise that ultimately, people do business with other people. Social content management builds on traditional document management in that it leverages professional social networks to create and find content, ideas and expertise. In effect, social content management integrates social tools with document management to go one step further, and connect people with project content. As collaboration becomes more and more central to successful project delivery and risk mitigation, the introduction of social networking tools to the document management process is allowing organizations to find and manage non-traditional content that can contribute to project success.

In a typical project handover scenario, contractors hand the maintenance manuals, warranty information and other documents to the owner when a project is completed. In stark contrast, BIM allows users to track information as the project is being built, and store it in an Electronic Content Management (ECM) system that is integrated with the project management system. In this case, manuals and documents can be saved to a portable media format and handed over to the Owner, smoothing the handover process and making manuals more accessible in the future.
